Information

The YB8 is a motorcycle model from the Italian manufacturer Bimota .

The YB8 was presented at the 1989 Milan Motor Show . It is a clone of the YB6 Exup .

It is equipped with the same Yamaha engine fitted to the FZR 1000 Exup, the 1,002 cc in-line four-stroke four – cylinder engine, developing 148 horsepower at 10,000 rpm , for a torque of 11.8 mkg at 9,250 rpm. . It is powered by four 36mm diameter Mikuni carburettors . The cylinder head has five valves per cylinder and the Exup valve on the exhaust is retained.

The frame is of the perimeter type, in aluminum , with a square section. The steering column incorporates an eccentric which allows the caster angle to be varied.

The 42 mm diameter Marzocchi inverted telescopic fork and the monoshock are adjustable in rebound and compression.

Braking is provided by two 320 mm discs at the front and a 230 mm disc at the rear, gripped by calipers with four and one piston respectively. Everything is supplied by Brembo .

The three-spoke rims are by Oscam.

For 1992 , Bimota introduced the YB8 Furano , named after a wind blowing over the Adriatic Sea , near Rimini . Here, the carburetors are replaced by Weber Marelli electronic injection . Power increases to 164 hp at 10,500 rpm .

The cycle part adopts an Öhlins fork and shock absorber. The rear brake caliper gains a second piston and the announced dry weight is down by 5 kg 1 .

In 1993 , Bimota released a compromise between the standard YB8 and the Furano, the YB8 E ( Evo , for evolution). If the engine retains the supply by electronic injection of the Furano, the cycle part uses the Marzocchi suspension elements and the single-piston rear caliper of the standard YB8 2 .

The YB8 was available in a single livery, red and white with green stripes. It was sold for € 14,170 , either as a kit or assembled. 10 kits and 242 assembled machines were sold 3 .
The YB8 Furano was sold in 152 copies while the YB8 E was produced in 169 copies.
